How to Inspire Yourself

When people talk to you about who inspires you the most, why don't you say “me”? How many times a day do you look to yourself to be inspired? It’s probably none, and that’s incredibly sad. Yes, your children may inspire you. Yes, your business may inspire you. Yes, the travel destinations you want to get to may inspire you, but you need to be the first and only inspiration you have to be ambitious, to get what you want, and to really be the person you want to be.

No one else is living your life but you. No one else is controlling what you do and who you are. Yes, you might have commitments, but you chose to have those commitments. That’s why you are the one thing in life you can control (thanks, Hamilton, for the reference).

You need to be able to inspire yourself into the things that you want to do. Sure, it may take a lot of self-confidence, but it’s not arrogance to say that you inspire yourself. Who else is making your decisions and driving you into the pathways to get where you want to go? Absolutely no one! You are the person choosing your education, your career, your family, your destinations - and on and on the list goes! So, how can you inspire yourself? What could you be doing to find yourself the best inspiration there is?

1. Make a plan. What do you want in life? Whatever it is, make a plan to get it. Superimpose yourself onto photos of where and what you want to be. The bigger the goal, the better, but instead of planning for the big goal, you need to make a plan for all the little ones. A big mountain is harder to climb, but a set of smaller hills are much easier to conquer. Whatever your bigger plan is, create smaller goals that will get you there and conquer them one by one

2. Stay positive no matter what. You have the power to get whatever you want in your life, but you have to believe in yourself. Others don't have to and you don't have to listen to any negativity. All you need to do is follow your plan to success. This positivity can come off as arrogance, but there is nothing wrong with being arrogant about your own abilities. You should be confident and expressive about that.

3. Don't stop. You need to inspire yourself and that should never end. You should always be able to say that you can do whatever you want - and then go and do it! You have to keep going in the pursuit of inspiring yourself as much as you want to keep going to achieve.

4. Staying humble is nice, but that doesn't mean that you have to doubt yourself. Be thankful for every small hill you climb because you can bet that it won’t be the only one. It all goes together to get you where you want to be, however, so keep fighting for yourself.

5. Reinvent who you are. What do you want to be? We’re not all born with perfect paths in life but that doesn't mean that you cannot create one.
