Hey y'all! I'm Joy (otherwise known as the Mrs) over at The Sowell Life.
And 10 months ago, the Mr and I said our "i do's" in a beautiful french garden in Jamaica!
You might be wondering why we chose Jamaica for our location. Well, it's simple. We wanted a wedding that was beautiful, peaceful and something that we would always remember, fondly. You see I knew we would be moving a few short weeks after our wedding, and let's face it, that's enough stress for anyone. So we decided that a destination wedding was our answer to a stress-free wedding.
All the arrangements (ceremony, photography, flowers, music, food, etc.) were made in one hour over the phone with the wedding coordinator at the resort, and our travel agent handled the rest. The only thing we had left to do was pack our suitcases for the trip.
The Wedding...
The day of our wedding (March 12th) we woke up and sunned on the beach until lunch. After enjoying a quick meal, we went our separate ways to get ready for the ceremony. The resort, did my makeup and hair, and made sure I was quite relaxed throughout the process. And at exactly 4 o'clock, I walked down to marry the man of my dreams.
Our vows were traditional, and we even had our first dance in the beautiful garden to Norah Jones' Come Away With Me. Our cake was chocolate with buttercream icing, and we toasted with some tasty champagne.
The photographer took over 300 photos, and we honestly loved all of them! They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck, and that's a great thing because after our mini reception it started raining. Once the shower ended, we walked out on the beach for the rest of our photos.
The Honeymoon...
As soon as the photo session ended, the honeymoon began. Not only was the resort the perfect place to get married, but it was also the perfect place to honeymoon.
The day before we left, our friends had gifted us a day on a catamaran cruise! And yes, this scaredy cat got off the catamaran in the middle of the ocean! #whatwasithinking
The Reception...
All good things must come to an end, and at the end of the week it was time to fly back to the states. My parents hosted a reception for us once we returned. That's right, I got to wear my dress, twice!! Plus, I had another bridal bouquet, wedding cake, he had a grooms cake, and we got to take pictures with our family and friends! And our little mini dachshund came for pictures, too!
The best part about our wedding/honeymoon/reception... I shared it all with the man I was meant to be with for the rest of my life. I can't believe our one year anniversary will be here in March! If you want to know how we met, click here. And our engagement story can be found by clicking here.
Thank you Rebecca for allowing me to share my week long celebration with you and your readers! Rebecca, I wish you and your husband the best anniversary yet, and a lifetime full of love and happiness!
