thirty-nine weeks

Well, here we are again. Another Thursday and another pregnancy update. I am probably as shocked as you guys are to be reading this. As you all remember my rants and excitement about how this week wasn't supposed to come. The baby was supposed to be here already. Well, here we are, only seven days away from the due date and guess what?! Still no baby!!!

Are you as surprised as I am? Especially for the last two weeks nurses and doctor's kept saying how I wouldn't make it to this week and then to that week. But you know what? I'm not making this a bad thing. It's just a big surprise.

However, I really do believe now this will be my last pregnancy update, my last baby bump photo, my last time to create these posts. I do not think we are going to be hitting forty weeks. But wouldn't that be really funny if I did?

I'm no longer trying to rush the baby like I was last week. This week has been pretty nice for me. I finally got it down in my head that there was no need to rush and I started feeling fantastic. Like I literally felt so good I could run a marathon. I started cleaning up, re-arranging things and finally getting the laundry done and just relaxing without the cries of an infant around just yet. I finally started to be able to enjoy us just still being a family of three.

So today I went to the doctor for my weekly appointment and here is how it went down. He checked me again for progress. Today I finally am now 4cm dilated and 80% effaced. Which means there's not much left from stopping the baby from coming now and 4cm finally allows me to go to the hospital and not be sent home anymore. If I go, they will keep me there for sure now.

During the appointment, he scrapped away more membranes and that started up some bad contractions again. I haven't had any since Saturday and now they are feeling really horrible. I was just crying not too long ago from the pain. The cramps from contracting make you feel like you are being stabbed to death. So yea, it's been a fun morning and afternoon so far for me today.

But it's a good sign because that means it's getting closer to the delivery. So the doctor now is really sure since I'm at the 80% mark, I will dilate pretty fast now. If by some crazy chance by Wednesday, the baby still hasn't come, he has scheduled to do another ultrasound and re-check me. If I do go that far, he will go ahead and break my water and start the delivery process.

So if you guys haven't heard from me, you know where I am :0)

Here's this week's update photos:

My belly doesn't look as big as last week's photo. I think it's the clothes. This is kind of a heavy sweater shirt and I think it covers and makes my tummy look smaller then it actually is. I'm looking a bit unhappy here because I was having lots of cramps and pain and trying to get a decent photo. It's hard when you are in pain to look pretty.

How far along? 39 weeks pregnant! (9.5 months) Baby due November 15.
Total weight gain/measurements: I didn't gain anything since last update {+24 all together}
Size Of Baby: Watermelon (about 20.5 inches long, 7.5 lbs)
Sleep: Last few nights have been rough. I've been having to get up and pee about every 30 mins now and it's not fun.
Maternity clothes: Of course!
Stretch marks? Yes, only about 5 now but they are very light.
Best moment this week: Getting a new dryer and baby will be here soon.
Miss anything? I miss not having to get up and go to the bathroom all the time. It's getting really annoying. And I miss being able to sit anywhere and just breathing properly.
Movement: Yes, the baby moves quite often.
Cravings?: Been really wanting milkshakes. Chocolate milkshakes.
Anything making you queasy or sick? No, not really.
Labor signs: I was feeling pretty good this week until today when I had my doctor's appointment. Now I feel contractions.
Symptoms: I've been having the usual. Cramping, back pains, peeing a lot.
Belly button in or out? I would say it's pretty much out.
Happy or moody most of the time: I've been feeling more happy this week.
Baby related purchases?: Nothing new this week. Although my parents bought and sent us 500 diapers, a breast pump, crib sheets.
Looking forward to: The baby's arrival. Looks like it could be any day now!

  2. This is great to read Rebecca. I'm so glad to hear that you've calmed down and you're taking it slowly and not feeling the need to rush. I'd personally be very surprised if you were posting a 40 week update though you seem pretty confident you will but best of luck anyway Rebecca, it's been a joy to follow you along this journey.

  4. It doesn't sound like baby boy is long away AT ALL! Wowee... I'm totally with you about the contractions & being told over & over 'you wont last this week'... I'm still pregnant too. Fingers crossed we don't see this week out but you seem to have an amazing attitude anyway xx

  5. Sounds like you all might have a baby over the weekend. With contractions strong enough to being tears to your eyes, I can't see how you'll go past Monday. Happy 39 weeks!

  8. Love your pic!
With my second the midwife told me every week from 35 weeks on that she would be surprised if I made it to the next week. (my first was 2 weeks early and contractions started at 20 weeks with the second). She was born 3 days before her due date.

Best of luck to you! Hope its a fast, easy and safe delivery.
