The one thing I can really think of that has been truly impacting was when my husband lost his job seven months ago.
He has a Masters degree and has been having the hardest time getting a job. Thankfully, he finally got one and his first day was today. The first time in seven months he has had work.
In his profession, jobs are hard because everything is contract. He designs video games. Yup, you know at the end of the video game you see the credits of people who made it? His name is there. He has worked for big company's such as EA and BioWare.
He has three titles under his belt right now. He made EA Sports MMA, EA Sports Tiger Woods 2010, and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.
Once the game is over, the job lets you go. Its very hard to have steady work in this industry during our economy. But he is super talented and if anyone is interested, his website with some of his work is HERE.
Anyway, with him being out of for for so long has been such a hardship on us. I had been overly stressed and just not knowing really how to handle it at first. now, everything is better. But I was working (and putting in lots of overtime too), paying all the bills, including childcare for our daughter because we still wanted her to go to her school. Its hard when you are only bringing home $2500 a month and you have $3000 in bills, rent, childcare, etc a month.
But we got through it and hopefully now that he got a job and is now making commercials for companies such as Lifetime and also American Idol and other things, I feel like things are going to be a lot more different around here :)
So this picture above is a great example. Someone who has a high degree, super talented and yet, still can't find decent work. I couldn't think of anything else that has impacted my life as job loss has recently.
This is so honest and real Rebecca! I'm sorry the past 7 months have been difficult for you guys! However, I am hoping that the new job brings new and exciting opportunities for you and your family!!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, this rings true for so many these days. Going to university and getting qualifications isn't always the foundation to a good job, like it used to be. Over here, students are continuously struggling with loans and finding ways to pay for their education. It's a terribly situation when they find themselves saddled with thousands of pounds worth of debt at the end of it.CJ xx
