On The Move

So, I haven't been able to sit down and blog as much as I have wanted to lately. A lot of you know, we are getting ready to move. And not just our usual typical move that we seem to do every year. This time, we are leaving the state and moving halfway across the country. So this is crunch time and it's been pretty hectic around here.

The moving truck comes Saturday and so we are trying to get everything in order. My dad is flying down to help us. So that will be really nice. It will probably get really stressful to say the least. But this is the reason why I haven't been very social lately. I haven't had any time to. Once we are done and settled up north, then I can start blogging again.

I have been really missing blogging a lot. Every time I try to, I just am not able to. There's too much packing, too much running errands.... too much of everything and no time. I'm actually starting to stress out a bit because I feel the crunch kicking in.

So just bear with me for a little bit. The blog hop will still go on and post. I have two of the most amazing hosts helping with that. Thank you Chrissy and Tiffany. I'm glad you understand my absent mind LOL I've been having that a lot lately.

I'm really going to miss Florida. Orlando has been my home for so many years now. It was the first city I moved to where I was totally independent. It was the first city I got engaged and married in. It was the first city I had both my children in. It was the first city I got my first real career job in. Not to mention, it is home to Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios, beaches every side of the state, and so much more. There was always something fun to do with the kids. And it always has great weather. And I met a couple of really amazing people here who are now going to be my life-long friends.

There's a few things I won't be missing about Orlando. I've had some bad times here too. Hopefully, I can leave those memories behind.

But after living here for eight years, it's time for a new chapter in our lives. It will be a huge change from what we are used to. I'm getting really nervous now and sad. Though I was really excited before. But it's because it's just such a big change but things will be ok. We are going to be closer to my family and I'm really happy about that. We should adjust well. Just a lot to do and get done before the final moments.

By the way, do you like the changes I have made to the blog? I'm trying something new and seeing if I can get used to it. I just thought changing it up will be good. I get bored easily with designs and like to keep playing around with new things. I still have to finish getting the stuff back set-up on here...but for the most part, I'm liking the look.

So anyway, I will try to pop in and do some blogging but it's just been really hard. Once we are up there, I plan on doing a lot of crafts and fun tutorials and putting them all on here for you guys. I'm really excited about that!

Edible Glitter/Colored Sugar

I have been seeing on Pinterest a lot about edible glitter lately and so I decided to give it a try. I really never found a complete step-by-step tutorial so I had to do one myself. It was easy to do. I must say it didn’t turn out completely “sparkly” like I originally thought. But after doing some Google searches, I found that everyone else’s turned out like mine. So I’m happy I didn’t mess it up completely. It’s more of colored sugar than glitter. My daughter helped me a lot with this one. I think this would look super cute with margaritas and daiquiris around the rim of the glass.

Here is what you need to get started:

Measure out 1/3 cup of sugar and dump it into a bowl or container. Add fifteen drops of food coloring into the sugar

IMG_7085 IMG_7087

Stir the food coloring and sugar together really well. The food coloring clumps so you have to make sure you mix it thoroughly. I found smashing it while stirring helped a lot to make the sugar fully covered.

IMG_7089 IMG_7097

Next, spread the sugar out onto the cookie sheet. Once you have completed all the colors you want to mix, you can arrange them on the sheet like I did so that it’s still spread out but they are not touching.

IMG_7086 IMG_7099IMG_7098

Place the cookie sheet in the oven at 350 degrees for ten minutes.

IMG_7100 IMG_7101

Once the timer goes off, take the cookie sheet out and use a spoon to scrap off the sugar. The sugar is hard and it will break off in chunks. Place the chunks of sugar into a container.

IMG_7102 IMG_7105

Using the spoon, mash up the clumps of sugar until it is fine and grainy like sugar granules again. The pour the sugar into a container you want to use as storage. I chose a cupcake baking cup {just for aesthetics}.

IMG_7106

Do that for each color you would like to use. I used the four colors that came in the box to start with.

Now, sprinkle on the sugar {glitter} onto cookies and decorate as you please. My daughter took this part over and started going a bit overboard. But she had lots of fun. And it was delicious as well!

DIY Kid’s Paint

The other day, my daughter and I did a fun craft together where we made our own paint for her. The great thing about this paint is, it’s non-toxic and made from items in your kitchen. It’s a super simple easy method and no nasty chemicals. She helped me put it all together. It was a team effort.

Here is what we used to get started:

Ingredients:

- 4 clean baby food jars
- a bowl for mixing
- 1/3 cup water
- 1/3 cup all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup table salt
- assorted food coloring dyes

Step One

Pour the water, salt, and flour into a container or bowl large enough for mixing

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step Two

Then stir everything in the bowl until it is mixed well.
*Note – I noticed my mixture was getting too thick so I added about another 1/8 cup of water until I found a nice “paint-like” consistency*

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step Three

IMG_7003

Scoop out the mixture and fill the baby jars until they all have the around the same amount in each one

Step Four

Start adding your food coloring to each jar. You can use as many drops as you like to get a desired color. My daughter used quite a lot of drops and got some very vivid colors. Then start to stir. I let her stir for a while and then I finished it making sure all the mixture and colors were well combined.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step Five

IMG_7014

Once completely mixed, they should come out looking like little jars of paint.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step Six

Last, grab a paintbrush and a piece of paper and let the children go at it.
My daughter loved this project and then went crazy using it all up!
