sixteen weeks

Well, it seems to have been a while since I blogged. I can't even tell you how extremely busy I have been. I wanted to write a post all about what has been going on this past week. I'm hoping to be able to to do that this weekend. Just so much then I'm used to. I have been so worn out I tell ya.

So I have been so busy that I skipped two weeks worth of updates and I never wanted to do that. No, nothing is wrong. I didn't stop posting because of something bad. Just never could find the time. So we have to skip those weeks and now just keep moving ahead.

I am now sixteen weeks. Yea! Exciting because that is also the four month mark. Only five months left to go. I had a doctor's appointment last week at fifteen weeks and things went well. I got to hear the heartbeat for the first time and it remained the same as the ultrasound. Going at 150 beats a minute still so that's good. I have my next appointment at nineteen weeks and that will be the gender ultrasound one. However, as you know, we aren't finding out the gender. So it will be fun though to see the baby again on screen.

So here is what is going on:

So the belly is getting bigger. I'm full blown all into maternity clothes now. Got a bunch of new outfits over the weekend. One for every day of the week so I should be good to go now. Maternity clothes are so comfy. I love them. So far since I weighed myself this morning, I have gained  six pounds. I weigh myself at the exact same time every morning so that helps in accuracy. So I guess that's about it for this topic for now.

I started making these bracelets year ago with my husband. At the time he showed me how to make them he was getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. It's something we did together and really enjoyed, so we started making them again. This time around I wanted to make them look cute. I wanted to add some girly southern charm to them. That's where Southern Survival Charms was born.

I make bracelets with charms ...

and without charms.

I also make key chains.

Thank y'all for reading.

MAY: Pregnancy Awareness Month Guest Post

May is pregnancy awareness month and Katie from Moore From Katie has written up a great post that goes right along with most of the things I am going to be preparing for in the next few months. So here is Katie's post:

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Making Preparations for a New Baby

Expectant mothers have approximately nine months to prepare for the birth of a new baby, but still have so much to do on the actual day of delivery and thereafter. The arrival of a new baby is one of life’s great achievements for moms and needs to be enjoyed thoroughly. While the thought of bringing a baby into the world may be a wee bit scary, it is a natural process that is happening daily to numerous women around the world. Things will start to fall into place naturally once the little one arrives.

Even though nothing can fully prepare you for the arrival of a living, breathing little life, there are some things you can do to prepare for the baby’s physical arrival. Let’s look at some essentials that mom-to-be need to take care of before baby arrives:

•    As a new mom one of the important decisions is to source the right pediatrician to care for the baby. It is recommended that a short list be whittled down to a final choice after personal interviews are conducted. It’s essential that mom and doctor be on the same page from the outset.

•    It is advisable for mothers to pack a hospital bag well in advance because babies can be a bit unpredictable and decide to pop out earlier than expected. Items include night clothes, toiletries, going home outfit, books or magazines, CDs and any other personal effects.  The baby will need diapers, baby wipes, blankets, day clothes and a going home outfit.

•    All the baby clothes purchased in anticipation of the baby’s arrival need to be washed with a detergent created especially for babies. The detergent should be mild and not cause irritation because the baby’s skin will be very sensitive.

•    Researching and identifying a good birthing program is necessary; it is the best way for expectant moms to learn all there is to know about childbirth and what it entails. Moms need to prepare to watch graphic birthing videos and receive instruction on labor pains and giving birth.

•    A baby carrier and special car seat for the new arrival will need to be purchased at some point prior to the baby’s arrival.

Once the baby arrives, the job is far from over, in fact, the fun is just getting started. There are some essential things mothers need to do soon after delivery:

•    Babies are exceptionally alert after birth and breastfeeding can be started right away. While breastfeeding is normally toted as the preferred method of feeding by medical professionals, the choice to formula feed or breastfeed is up to the mother.

•    The long-term health care of a newborn is probably not immediately on a mother’s mind, but there is a way to prepare for your child’s long-term health care immediately after delivery; it is known as cord blood banking. Cord blood banking is where the baby’s umbilical cord blood is collected immediately after delivery and stored for the family. The stem cells found in cord blood are used today to treat dozens of diseases.

With these preparations taken care of ahead of time, a woman can feel ready to take the next step into motherhood and enjoy the birth of her new bundle of joy.

Mother's Day

So of course, it's Mother's Day. Wishing all my beautiful friends out here who are mommies a very warm and fuzzy Mother's Day. As for me, we did have some plans. We were supposed to go to the movies and see "The Avengers". However, the Mr. is not feeling well and for me, I honestly have no interest in seeing it. I was only going to go because it would be something we would go do together. So since he wasn't feeling well, he said I could take our daughter to see it who really wants to. But I seriously just feel like sitting here doing nothing. Like I said, it's not a movie I really have any interest in seeing anyways.
So she was a bit upset but I made a deal with the Mr. Since his birthday is tomorrow and he saw it yesterday {but would see it again}, I told him while I'm at work, he can take her to the movies and they would both enjoy it more then I would.
So that's the plan. They can go tomorrow as a birthday outing while mommy is at work and I'm totally fine with that. I got to take her out yesterday on a lunch date and walk around the mall. I'm good for today with just staying home.
So what are your Mother's Day plans? Anyone get anything really special or do anything special?

And for those who are into some humor, here is a "warm, fuzzy" greeting to all of you!

xoxo Rebecca

thirteen weeks

Well look who finally was able to do a post on the right day? Yea for me! That is right. Today I turned officially 13 weeks. Do you know what that means? Goodbye first trimester and hello second. Thank goodness. I couldn't wait to to get out of that first stage.

So looking back, the first trimester was crappy and awful for 98% of the time and I did however manage to stay within the weight guidelines. I read you should gain between 1-5 pounds within the first three months. I gained four. So not too bad. However, I feel horribly fat. And to clear that up...no, not like a fat stomach. I have said I feel fat and got attacked and was told I need to stop it and I'm needing to have a growing belly. That's not where I feel fat. Trust me. I'm perfectly fine and actually like the belly look.

You know how we all have that one place where we feel like we gain weight the most? Some people it is in their thighs, others their butt, or your arms....me, its in my neck. I hate that feeling. I feel like I have a swollen neck and it feels so fat and nasty. That's my little fat tad for ya. So because I have gotten a bit off of my super strict healthy diet and kind of been eating some pizza and other things that aren't the healthiest.. not fast food or processed food. Just like some candy and things I stopped eating and now eating some. I'm not over doing it, but because I started it back up, I feel like all the weight I was so proud of losing is slowly coming back. however, only 4 pounds. I feel a lot worse I think then I actually look.

Here's what's going on this week:

I'm a peach!

Here's belly bump photo for the week. It's starting to really poke out a lot now. No hiding this tummy at all.

So this week sadly I've been losing sleep again. What happened? Last week I was finally getting some sleep and thinking that was the end of those darn sleepless nights. Nope. And back up every two hours to pee....grrr.....last week spoiled me a bit.

The sickness feeling has gone down. Last week it did and now this week it's still down which is awesome. I just seem to only throw up every morning in the shower. I just do. But other then that, I feel ok throughout the day. Sometimes in the afternoons I don't feel so hot. And lately I've been having pains feeling like I pulled a muscle. I know its just growing pains. But it's still annoying and hurts.

I got a phone call from the doctor's office letting me know they got my blood work back and everything came back good except one thing. I'm extremely deficient in vitamin D. I really am not surprised. I wasn't getting it. I do not drink milk or any other dairy product. Nor eat any. Rarely {once a month} have a slice of cheese. That's not enough. So they had me order the vitamins on top of taking the prenatals. So hopefully at my 15 week appointment, I'll be better and my tests will come back that it's working.

Other then that, I don't think there is anything else. So I guess this is it until next week's update.

twelve weeks

I'm been a pretty bad blogger lately. I can barely have the energy and time to write in my own blog and really neglecting the blogs I love to read. It's been forever I feel since I have been able to get around to reading and commenting on them. I'm so sorry about that. It seems my days become more and more hectic. Oh how I wish I were a stay at home mom. To be able to do everything during the weekdays and not use up my weekends to only clean up a week's worth of messes. I feel I get home later and later from work giving no time to do much of anything.

But last Sunday {so it's been one week now. Seems longer} we finally made the public announcement about our pregnancy. Sure, we told my parents, and I posted all about it on my blog. But hardly any of my friends or family read my blog so they hadn't known the news. It came as a huge shock to many. But in a good way at least. I did a similar announcement on my blog a while back and so we redid the photos last week for everyone else. And this is how it turned out:

So that is what I posted up on Facebook and I don't think I have ever got as many comments on a photo before as I did this one. But it was nice. Everyone seems to be happy for us.

So today I am 12.5 weeks and getting ready to get out of the first trimester. Thank goodness. I hate the first one. It's so slow, so painful and so yucky. Wanting to throw up all the time and no sleep makes for a crappy three months. I'm not even sure when the official end of the first trimester is. Some sites I read say 12 weeks. Others say 14 weeks..... I don't' think anyone knows for sure.

I also had my first doctor's appointment on Wednesday and that was really exciting but super long. I can't tell you how exhausting that day was. My appointment started at 10:30am and we were all done at 2:00pm....long long long day for everyone. And there wasn't even much done that would take that long. It was more paperwork and waiting then anything.

The nurses and doctor didn't believe I was as far along as I thought so they didn't do an exam or anything. I didn't get to hear the heartbeat either. But they did do an ultrasound and that was all I really wanted to do. So I was super happy. They wanted to measure and see my exact due date and how far along I was really.

I've been telling everyone November 15th because that is what I calculated and so I wasn't going to be absolutely sure until this visit. And you know what? I was 100% dead on. The calculations and measurements from the ultrasound came out to be exactly Nov 15th. Damn I'm good. I was dead on with my daughter's due date too. I have known many people's who's due date changed so much throughout their pregnancy but mine has always stayed the same with each one.

So here are the photos they got of our little baby bean growing. Although we never heard the heartbeat, we got to see it on the screen and it was beating at 150 beats per minute which she said was great.

So the little baby bean looks like it's developing great. I loved seeing it on the monitor and all the things going on. The baby was sleeping and she got it to move around and that made me giggle because she was moving my stomach all over the place.

The doctor told me since I am 12 weeks, the chance of miscarriage is now 10% which is great news. And since I have no history of it, my chances are even less. So I'm glad that everything seems fine and healthy so far with both of us.

The doctor then gave me a huge supply of prenatal vitamins that will probably last the rest of my pregnancy and seem to be working great so far. They are made specifically made for morning sickness and so since taking them, I have been feeling so much better. I don't feel sick nearly as much anymore. I'm feeling so much more like myself. I am so happy. And this past week, I have gotten so much more sleep and less trips to the bathroom too. I'm so glad the first trimester is almost over. When does it really end anyway? I've read it ends at 12 weeks, then another source said 14 weeks....does anyone even know?

So since my appointment was only an ultrasound, I was then sent for blood work and lots of it. Since this was my first appointment, I had lots of tests to make up for from all the past weeks. The only tests I declined were the down syndrome tests. I do not believe in those so I told them it was something I refused to do. And so I was only sent for mostly tests to make sure I am healthy. My iron levels, HCG levels and things like that.

I go back to the doctor when I'm 15 weeks {so very soon} for my very first exam and more testing. I have to say, I really like my doctor this time around. I really think he was so nice and I think this will be a nice pregnancy with him around as someone I trust. I was kind of scared of my doctor the first time around. So this is a relief.

So let's get to what has been going on this week through the pregnancy stages:

And here is my twelve week belly photo:

I knew this would be a long update. But so much went on this week with the doctor's appointment. Now just a few weeks left til my next. I'm sure it won't be nearly as exciting to talk about as this one.

Wordless Wednesday - Corner

So it's been a few weeks {ok, maybe almost a few months} since I last posted my WW link up. So I'm doing it again. Join and link up your photos.

Wordless Wednesday
<div align="center"><a href="http://to-calm-insanity.blogspot.com" title="Wordless Wednesday"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v324/satinxoxo/blog%20buttons/wordlesswed.jpg" alt="Wordless Wednesday" style="border:none;" /></a></div>

So the photo I'm using this week is one I took today and I thought it was pretty funny.
I was on my lunch break today and while sitting outside waiting on my food, I noticed this guy standing at the business next door. He was holding a sign that said "Don't Waste Your Money Here". The business was a used car dealership. The owner must have really pissed off the guy a lot to have him out in that hot sun picketing away.
It was amusing watching people walk up to him to talk to him or people drive by and honk. It's never a dull moment during lunch time.
