Wee Bit of Me Wednesday 04.27.11

Its Wednesday again and you know what that means! Leigh Ashley's Wee Bit Of Me Wednesday questions again. So here they are for this week:

{one} have you ever been stuck in an elevator?
I don't think I ever have. Unless I was little and can't remember. But I think I would get a bit nervous after 2 mins being in there. I'd feel like it would drop or something.

{two} have you ever ridden on an elephant?
I actually think I have once at the circus.

{three} have you ever met a well known celebrity?
I went to elementary school with Kevin Costner's nephew. But I have met some WWF stars at a wrestling match my dad took me to in middle school and I've met the Harlem Globetrotters. I have also met Cher's drummer who handed me the drumstick at her concert when I was 10. Nothing too impressive but I've met some celebs...kinda :)

{four} do you have any food allergies?
No, but I tell people I am allergic to milk or chicken so they stop forcing me to try it.

{five} do you know how to sew?
Of course! Sewing used to be my favorite thing to do. I started when I was in 3rd grade and by the time I was in high school, I was designing and sewing all the costumes for the school plays and musicals. I love to sew costumes but I sew regular clothes as well to just wear.

{six} did you get an allowance when you were young?
Something like that I guess you could say. My parents tried it with us, but gave up cause I just demanded money and refused to do chores.

{seven} how often do you fill up your gas tank?
Sadly, every four days. I drive 100 miles a day to and from work and my car holds 400 miles in its gas tank. And since I work Monday through Friday, its sucks. Esp with the gas at $4.39 at some gas stations around here.

{eight} have you ever been stung by a jelly fish?
Nope, can't say I have. But almost stepped on a few dead ones that washed up on shore.

{nine} have you ever been robbed?
I haven't been. But I've had a few things go missing after friends have left the house before. But not like coming home and your door kicked in or car window busted.

{ten} what is the worst haircut you’ve ever had?
Oh geez… When I was in 10th grade, I wanted this cute cut that I saw in the hair books at the salon. I pointed tot he style and asked for that cut. The person did the exact opposite of what I asked and instead of this cute do, I looked that the Carol Brady wannabe. I hated it so much. I cried because I couldn't believe how someone could mess up so bad. I was so happy when it grew out. Felt so embarrassing though to start a new school feeling mortified by my hair.

Day 5 – What Song Do You Play When You’re Feeling Sad?

Today is the fifth day of the 30 day music challange. Today's song is a song you play when you're feeling sad.

Photo Challenge-Pets

I decided to dig up a really old photo I took of my first pet on my own after I graduated college. Her name was Ariebelle and she was such a great kitty. Very well behaved. Her death in 2007 really hit me hard. So here is my photo of her:

Obsess Much?

So my husband told me this weekend that I have a problem with the word "obsess". He says I seem to say it all the time, about everything and take it completely out of context.

Its just one of those things I like to use as my adjective for anything I feel someone is into a lot. Not so much LITERALLY obsessed to a crazy point... but I say it... so what?

I may over use the word, but thats just the word I love to use. I describe everything with "obsess".

Here are some of my examples:

"She loves that movie. She's totally obsessed over it"
"I am obsessed with boy-bands. I can't stop listening to them"

It drives him crazy. He hates that word for some reason. I don't see what the big deal is. But what is a word you tend to over use and not so much the literal sense of it, but its just your word you use? I would like to know what others have as "their word". Go on, share!

I LOVE Bobby Brown. Love his songs a lot. I listen to him all the time. And this song makes me feel nostalgia and just a feeling of summer and young and freedom. Always keeps the good mood strong when I hear it.

Funny tidbit - My sister-in-law posted some old school photos of them family from back in the day on her facebook page not too long ago and I saw all these photos I've never seen before and my husband back in high school had a Bobby Brown haircut and looked a lot like him too. It was totally priceless. So I now bug him and make fun of him calling him Bobby all the time now...lol. He hates me for it... :)

UNPACKING IS KILLING MY FEET COMPLETELY

It so is. I have been unpacking and moving boxes all around all day and my feet are in so much pain. Blah..... I wish the hubby would have helped a bit more. In fact, I wish he would have helped at all. He just sat and played Mortal Kombat while our daughter played dress up Rapunzel all day with her new Tangled dress and matching wig. So its been a tiring day and I still have so much left to do to make it sleep-able tonight as well. Oh, I just hurt so bad but don't want to stop. I just want to keep going because I have seen a little progress being made.

Its a "last year" but thats ok. I blast it in my car all the time and it makes me dance around and I think its a fun song! Hate to admit it, but I like her whole album actually. Calling In Sick

A co-worker sent me this in an email today and I thought it was pretty funny. I'm not sure if this is completely a true story, but I could see it being one. Anyone who has ever called in sick to work or school, this one's for you!

We've all had trouble with our animals, but I don't think anyone can top this one:

Calling in sick to work makes me uncomfortable. No matter how legitimate my excuse, I always get the feeling that my boss thinks I'm lying.

On one recent occasion, I had a valid reason but lied anyway, because the truth was just too darned humiliating. I simply mentioned that I had sustained a head injury, and I hoped I would feel up to coming in the next day. By then, I reasoned, I could think up a doozy to explain the bandage on the top of my head. The accident occurred mainly because I had given in to my wife's wishes to adopt a cute little kitty.
Initially, the new acquisition was no problem.

Then one morning, I was taking my shower after breakfast when I heard my wife, Deb, call out to me from the kitchen.

"Honey! The garbage disposal is dead again. Please come reset it."

"You know where the button is," I protested through the shower pitter-patter and steam. "Reset it yourself!"

"But I'm scared!" she persisted. "What if it starts going and sucks me in?"

There was a meaningful pause and then, "C'mon, it'll only take you a second."

So out I came, dripping wet and butt naked, hoping that my silent outraged nudity would make a statement about how I perceived her behavior as extremely cowardly.

Sighing loudly, I squatted down and stuck my head under the sink to find the button. It is the last action I remember performing.

It struck without warning, and without any respect to my circumstances. No, it wasn't the hexed disposal, drawing me into its gnashing metal teeth. It was our new kitty, who discovered the fascinating dangling objects she spied hanging between my legs. She had been poised around the corner and stalked me as I reached under the sink. And, at the precise moment when I was most vulnerable, she leapt at the toys I unwittingly offered and snagged them with her needle-like claws. I lost all rational thought to control orderly bodily movements, blindly rising at a violent rate of speed, with the full weight of a kitten hanging from my masculine region.

Wild animals are sometimes faced with a "fight or flight" syndrome. Men, in this predicament, choose only the "flight" option. I know this from experience. I was fleeing straight up into the air when the sink and cabinet bluntly and forcefully impeded my ascent.
The impact knocked me out cold.

When I awoke, my wife and the paramedics stood over me.

Now there are not many things in this life worse than finding oneself lying on the kitchen floor butt naked in front of a group of "been-there, done-that" paramedics.
Even worse, having been fully briefed by my wife, the paramedics were all snorting loudly as they tried to conduct their work, all the while trying to suppress their hysterical laughter......and not succeeding.

Somehow I lived through it all. A few days later I finally made it back in to the office, where colleagues tried to coax an explanation out of me about my head injury. I kept silent, claiming it was too painful to talk about, which it was.

"What's the matter?" They all asked, "Cat got your tongue?"
If they only knew!

Why is it that only the women laugh at this?

Wee Bit of Me Wednesday 04.20.11

{one} how often do you do laundry?
Probably about once a week is the norm. At the moment, we still have so many clothes not unpacked yet that we are doing laundry every few days because we only have a few things out to wear so they keep getting washed a lot until we can get things unpacked.

{two} what is your favorite type of cookie?
Chocolate Chip.

{three} what would you do with an extra $2000 per month?
Pay off bills, buy another car, buy new clothes, buy lots of cool stuff for our place, buy annual passes to Disney & Universal Studios.

{four} what was/is your favorite subject in school?
My favorite subject in school was always art. No surprise since I was an artist. But my other favorite subject was history.

{five} have you ever ridden in a hot air balloon?
Nope, but have always wanted to be able to say I have. Maybe one day.

{six} what was your high school mascot?
A naked baby. Literally... my high school mascot was a Kewpie. A freakin naked baby from the 50's-60s (although I graduated in 2000).

{seven} if you had the chance to go into space, would you?
I used to always want to do this. I always wanted to be in space, drawing and playing the piano. I know, a little crazy, but that's what I wanted and still do one day.

{eight} how often do you go dancing?
Never, unfortunately. The hubby hates it more than anything and even at our wedding, we didn't have a dance. I would have to say the last time was one winter I was home for winter break in college back around 2002-2003. I went with one of my girl friends. But if it were up to me, I'd be going to clubs and out dancing every single night

{nine} would you rather drive or fly?
FLY. I hate long car rides and I hate the way people drive. I've spent too much time in cars and I love being in the air.

{ten} have you ever been caught re-gifting?
No… I don’t think I’ve actually ever re-gifted.

Caesar Salad...yum!!! Although I do love Garden salads as well

No, don't think so. Although it is a bit fascinating, I'll probably be at work while its on

Our living room set from Rooms To Go.. that was a big chunk of change we dished out a few weeks ago

Window!

5. Do you know your blood type?
I think I do. I believe I am A+...I think

Getting To Know You Sunday

1. what's something you've eaten and liked, but didn't think you would?
Hmm...well, I actually have a fear of food. I am very weary of trying anything new at all. So at the moment, I can't think of anything since I stay away from new foods.

2. plastic surgery..yay or nay?
I say yay cause if I had the money, I would so have the works done.

3. 2 things you love about spring are.....?
I love that Spring time = my birthday!
And it means warm weather which I love

4. when's the last time you went on a picnic?
Wow, I would have to say I believe the last time I was probably in Elementary School.

5. what's your favorite app?
Netflix on the iPhone. I listen to all day everyday at work. I'm the kind of person that likes to listen to movies and work rather then music.

6. who does the grocery shopping in your house?
We all go together as a family and grocery shop. Since we have such different tastes, I always seem to pick up the wrong thing for him when I go by myself and vise versa so we just all go together when its that time.

7. would you rather take a spin class or zumba?
Zumba. I did a spin class once and my butt was about to fall off. I think Zumba would be more my thing

8. how often do you go out to dinner?
LOL... well, every night. I don't cook and I'm really not a fan of home cooking. I really like the way eating out at restaurants taste. So we seem to eat out a lot.

Everything is better in 3D

Well, thanks to Rooms to Go, we were able to go buy a new 3D TV... very very cool. All we had to pay was tax on it. So what an amazing deal we got. We just got it home and it has the option to watch everything and anything in 3D. Very very cool.

So of course, hubby is all excited and all into it. Not to mention, the tv came with two free 3D glasses which were $140 a piece. So we are so psyched that we got a big 3D tv. It takes up almost the whole wall its against.

Now how can you beat that? It was virtually free! I am happy Rooms to Go was doing this promotion.
We are all a happy bunch right now!

Its so very cool to watch regular tv and any movie even Netflix to the news, to sports, to Disney all in 3D... doesn't matter what it is. Or you can switch back to normal view.

Cannot get enough of him. Been so obsessed with The Tudors. I seem to watch it everyday. My fav season tv show now. Been watching it over and over and this guy is super hot!!!! I mean, look at how sexy he is.

Need I show more? The man is dead sexy!!!! The man also played Elvis... now who else could play the role of such another hot icon?

A little history on the man for your pleasure:

Jonathan Rhys Meyers (birth name: Jonathan Michael Francis O’Keeffe) was born on July 27th 1977 in Dublin, Ireland. He and his family moved to County Cork, Ireland, when the actor was nearly a year old, and then, at the age of 3, his father left the family, leaving his mother to care for Jonny and his 3 younger brothers alone.

Rhys Meyers grew up with a tumultuous childhood, spending some time in an orphanage and being permanently expelled from school at age 16. Happy to be out of school, he began spending time in a local pool hall where he was discovered by Hubbard Casting. The casting agents were talent-spotting for the David Puttnam production of War of the Buttons (1994) and asked Jonathan to appear for an audition. After three days of auditions, however, he did not get the role, and Rhys Meyers gave up on his acting aspirations. Soon afterward, he received a call to audition for a national ad campaign for Knorr soup, and though embarrassed by the attention from the ad, he soon found himself considered for a major film. His movie acting debut was a very small role in the film A Man of No Importance (1994), where his simple cast credit is as “First Young Man”. His first lead role was in the film The Disappearance of Finbar (1996). During a 6-month postponement in production he returned home to Cork and there received a call about the film Michael Collins (1996). He traveled to Dublin to meet with director Neil Jordan and successfully won the role of Collins’s assassin. Jordan wrote about his meeting with the actor, “I have found someone to play Collin’s killer. Jonathan Rees-Myers from County Cork, apparently, who looks like a young Tom Cruise. [He] Comes into the casting session with alarming certainty. Obviously gifted”.

Jonathan continued working constantly from that point and appeared in such films as The Maker (1997), Telling Lies in America (1997), and The Tribe (1998). Going on to film The Governess (1998), B. Monkey (1998), Titus (1999) and Ride with the Devil (1999/I), he has received critical acclaim for several performances, most notably as “Brian Slade” in Velvet Goldmine (1998), as “Steerpike” in the British mini-series “Gormenghast” (2000) and as a sympathetic football coach in Bend It Like Beckham (2002). Rhys Meyers is also a talented singer and musician, having performed his own vocals in Velvet Goldmine (1998) and appearing on the film’s soundtrack.
